New ESCC Ride Director Announcement!!

News on July 16th, 2011 Comments Off
Exciting news for our club-and democracy as a whole!  We have had a peaceful vote, no riots or car bombings at the polls, no hanging chads or supreme court challenges, and Joe Jacoby has been elected, unanimously from the voting, to the Ride Director position for East Side Cycling Club.  Gordon has passed the torch-no easy feat from the Smoky Mountains-and Joe will assume the duites as fast as we can get him up to speed, and transfer some data.
Joe will definitely be reaching out to the club to try and get some events off the ground, as well as recruiting some new B/C group ride captains etc.

Children’s Bicycle Rodeo

Events on February 24th, 2011 Comments Off

This coming Saturday, Feb 26th, from 10am – 12pm, Timber Lakes Elementary School will be hosting its annual Children’s Bicycle Rodeo. The purpose of the event is to teach the little ones in our community bicycle safety through a sequence of hands-on cycling stations. I have attached a document detailing each station so you can see the “flow”.
The “Helmet Fitting” and “Bike Inspection” stations come first and are probably the most important.
THIS IS WHERE WE COME IN.
The Timber Lakes P.E. teacher, Jamie Crawford, has specifically requested our club to help the kids with helmet-fitting, tire pumping, chain and handle bar inspection, etc. The volunteers at these stations last year didn’t quite know what they were doing, especially with helmet and seat adjustment, so we would be a big help!
This is last minute guys, but I see this as a special call for help from our community. It will help our little ones be safe when they’re out riding their bikes, and a great step toward making (and keeping) East Orlando a cycling-friendly community. This is also a great opportunity to make ourselves more visible and active in Avalon Park.
If you cannot attend, I would be very grateful to those who can loan me the following:

  • Tire pumps (keep in mind we’ll have mostly kids’ bikes)
  • Chain lube
  • Tools (for seat and handlebar adjustment)

Thanks For You Help in this Event!!!
